Minimal Theme for VLC 2.1.5 (Mac) by k-profiler Minimal Theme for VLC 2.1.5 (Mac) by k-profiler
NB: This theme is not yet Retina-compatible. If you'd like to see a Retina version, volunteer to help me edit the image files.Thumbs Up

* Update (Aug 9): Confirmed working perfectly fine on the newest 2.1.5. Please disregard the comment claiming otherwise.

* Update (Mar 2): Confirmed working fine on 2.1.4.

* Update (Dec 28): Seems to work fine on 2.1.2. Just run the installer again after updating.

* Update (Dec 2): Now compatible with 2.1.1.  (NB: If you get a weird vertical line in your volume bar, go to Preferences -> Show all -> Interface -> macosx, and set "Maximum volume displayed" to 99 to make it go away.)

[Old updates removed for clarity]

_______________

Important:

To change the sidebar color, you need a SIMBL tool called FB Eye. Get it from here (courtesy of alexzielenski)

_______________

This skin is part of a larger suite, which you can download here for Mavericks, and here for Mountain Lion.

The font used in the logo is Estrya's Handwriting by Jellyka. (NB: Logo not working in the most recent versions)

And in case you're wondering: yes, window decorations are on.;)

_______________

Installation instructions:

1) Open the installer

2) Choose whether you want [1] Transparent controls, [2] Opaque controls (large), or [3] Opaque controls (small)

3) If you choose opaque controls, you have an option to make them a tiny bit translucent (to match with Black Dock for Mountain Lion)

4) Open VLC, switch to dark mode, and restart the app.

Please stop with the alarmist nonsense. My theme works perfectly fine on the newest 2.1.5. Just run the installer again after updating. Once you've done that, I'd appreciate it if you'd edit your comment to not scare off new visitors. Thanks.

This looks awesome! Can you make it work with retina macbooks? I wouldn't mind helping.

Sigh, no time to do this now. The trick is to make 2x size versions of the image files I've edited (not just blow them up but smooth edges etc.) so that they match their @2x.png counterparts. They're easy to spot in /Resources, and when you succeed you should see a change when you restart the app. If anyone reading this wants to dit it, send me the files and I'll add them. Laters.

Thanks! And if you're willing to help, sure!:) Compared to my other skins, this should be relatively easy to convert. I'll send you a version to test out when I get around to it. Maybe in the next couple of weeks? Don't hold your breath, though.:)

your theme seems amazing but i can't install it. I'm running VLC 2.1.2, and I followed your simple installation steps, but on step 4 I can't seem to find the option "switch to dark mode". Can you help me? Thanks

Thanks for the answer! It looks awesome so far. Just one more question: this is my version vs yours, how can I change it? gyazo.com/0a16537f794691a80f7e…

Seems I forgot to delete the sidebar icons in my latest update. Oops.

If you're in a hurry, you can empty the image files manually.:)

To change the sidebar color, you need a plugin called FB Eye. See the instructions.

As for the logo, it stopped working during a recent update, as they changed the way that element is coded. If I can't get it to work in my next update, I'll remove it from the preview picture.
